I have decided to repost this image in support of Saudi Arabian blogger Raif Badawi whose calls for freedom of thought and speech have resulted in his being imprisoned for ten years, fined, and also sentenced to 1000 lashes – 50 a week for a total of 20 weeks. As bloggers ourselves and with the freedom to record and share our thoughts and words, images and creations, I ask you to think of Raif and what his terrible punishment means, both to him and his family but also to our world at large. Thank you.
Chris, your post about Raif certainly made me re-evaluate my reaction to both this and its sister photo: they both have now taken on a more sinister tone. Again, thank you.
Thank you for looking again Chris. I value your words.
This makes me think about how easy it is to take our freedoms for granted….
And we must protect them and we must offer that protection to Raif and all who suffer just for the right to speak honestly. thank you Sue.
