Powerful shot…
Hard to know what to do.
I feel what I am doing is invasive but I believe we record our times which, on reading our history, have never changed.
Agreed.
Its a fine line between stepping into someones dignity and exposing a problem that may then lead to a solution.
The timeless dilemma of documentary photography.
Im sure youve seen salgados work.
Is there a difference between seeing, recording in your mind and capturing digital?
Your words are so true, Chris. If only there were a simple solution.
I can understand your dilemma regarding the “invasiveness” of what you’re doing, Chris, but I for one appreciate seeing images such as these. Well, “appreciate”. Hm. Yes, I think there’s a certain kind of dilemma to be had to see such things in the first place, whether it’s in person or in an image. I guess it’s good for all of us to be reminded to not get too comfortable. This poor woman could be any one of us given the right circumstances in life. My heart goes out to her, and I hope she finds the help she so severely needs.
I know you are a sensitive man – I suppose we need to see such images to show us that the vile madness of celebrity is balanced out by poverty and sadness.
There’s definitely a place and purpose for what you’re doing, Chris. I think this is something that ought to be remembered too, for sure.
Stunning image on every level; I want to give her a hug.
I feel at a loss with such a loss – but yes, a hug would be a wonderful thing for her.
