STALKER
We have just returned from a week at Borderlines Film Festival and some of the films we saw were by Andrei Tarkovsky who is described as one of the great film directors, and we are not arguing with that statement at all. STALKER is a study of human belief systems and needs, science and art. Which is most important to our wellbeing?

Not sure if it is ‘dreads’ or ‘dreds’ but I like the idea of dread…

HEIDI AND HER UNICORN
Image by Christine Renney after Heidi!
My great-niece presents us with an interesting self-portrait which I believe depicts her passion for the crayon or felt tip together with a colourful Unicorn which she hopes to see one day, as do we all.
Forgive my self-indulgence and pride.
LA GIACONDA

I have only just worked on this image, which I took last year in Wolverhampton, and all at once I could see the Mona Lisa in this young lady. What do you think?
BLACK STAR
Obviously, I already knew Space Oddity and the strange beauty of Bowie but one night, in late December 1971, I got on the bus home from Bedford where I met up with my friend Heather. Heather was cool – she worked in the record department W.H.Smiths and she was clutching a bag with a vinyl album in it.
‘Oh’, she said, ‘this is the GREATEST thing I have ever heard – been playing it in the shop all day. You must come round.’ So I got off the bus at her stop and went to her house where I ended up staying the night after listening to Hunky Dory for what seemed hours and hours and not getting bored.
This weekend I have been listening to Black Star and it made me think about ageing and fading and I thought ‘this is vintage Bowie’ and so it is.
I am so sad that we have lost him and his unique take on our world. No doubt, he is hand in hand with Major Tom now, floating together in the tin can.
I saw this graffiti in MK a few months ago and had to take it as it is also from the Flight the Conchords which I love too.

VEIL
MASTERPIECES
“Donald” was a gentleman I met, through my work, many years ago. He was chivalrous, adored women and the female form, the walls and ceiling of his home were dedicated to his art. He also wrote poetry and wanted to share this with Mark and me. Hence this little comic strip. I have to say, “Donald’s” art and poetry were much, much better than his driving and particularly his complete abandonment of the Highway Code. I was very fond of him and remember him with a smile.
